Practice Day

We are up in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of New York State for the annual Region 2 contest at Wurtsboro Airport. The fine team you may remember from last year is here again: Our host Daniel Zelek, CM Joanie Taylor, CD Jacquie Doherty, Scorer Roman Michalowski, Chief Tow Pilot Dan Yates, and Wx Erik Mann and (remote) Richard Kellerman.

Today was the official practice day. A weak cold front passed through last night and the sky today was cu-filled with bases up to 5000ft. Good streeting, too. We had several takers for the usual 2 hour valley tour: Ellenville-Lewis Landing-Piolis-Otisville. Winds were brisk and “sporty” all day and kept pilots on their toes.

New for this contest is the addition of two extra start cylinders, one to the north of the airport and one to the south. The latter will allow for nearby Ellenville to be used as a first turnpoint.

And the big news in town is that Stewarts convenience store was rebuilt and the gas pump area enlarged – we have room to maneuver! Sometimes it’s the little things…
