Day 6 Recap

An uneasy forecast and uncooperative weather the day before led to the tasking committee making a 2hr Assigned Area Task with the first point only being .5km but, the rest with larger turns. As it turned out, the day was a bit better than forecast making the 2-hour task a slight under call. There ended up being about 5 hours of decent soarable weather. This extra time led to the opportunity to play some start games. Many contestants started, reached the first turn, and then came back and restarted. Some just waited until many of the fleet had made decent progress before their start to have some markers. This type of start game is not so common in US competitions however, gaggle games and start games are the norm in international meets. The winning strategy yesterday was to leave decently late. However, there were a few that left too late, and the day died on them by the time they got to the back end of the course. In these short tasks most of the fleet stays close and with a comparatively long final glide, most contestants can walk away with some really high speeds!
