A Nice Surprise

Day 2 was an area task up near Mt. Lassen and we had spectacular views of both Lassen and Mt. Shasta. That first leg had nicely marked lift over the high terrain, but when we turned east on the second leg, the cu's became sparse and then ended in a huge blue hole from the turnpoint at Ravendale all the way south to Honey Lake.  Most everyone chose to turn and not mess around with that blueness, but one pilot made an inefficient arc along the line of the turn circle, first south, then east, then north.  Well, it worked and that pilot won Day 2, much to his surprise.
