Tuesday No Contest Day

No one thought we would be flying at all on Tuesday. But when we arrived for the 1000 Pilots Meeting we were informed that the latest wx report gave hope of a contest day. A minimal 1.5hr TAT to HannaAcres-Hornell-Seven Gullies was called for both classes. We gridded at 1145 and launched sniffer Boris Kubrak [XA] at noon.

The sky was full of cu but it kept cycling and there were pop-ups of light rain. Boris ran his engine early on but finally was able to sustain 2500-3000ft in 1kt lift, so the FAI Class was launched. Given the weak conditions, the Sports Class was wisely canceled. Around 1400 the FAI Class was canceled as rain in the task area became more prevalent. A game of “Last Man Down” was on! But after an hour or so thunder and lightning put an end to that "task" as well. The guys who stayed up had some fun flying in all that convective-ness but could not avoid landing back at the field in the rain.

Wednesday and Thursday look grim with remnants of “Fred” moving in but we are hopeful that Friday and Saturday will bring good enough weather to get in a contest.
