Finish

Good morning,

Yesterday dawned with overcast skies and rain. We recorded another 3/4" at Sunflower. At the 1:30 PM pilots meeting we pulled the plug. Cloudbase was still below 2000 AGL at that point.

Last night we enjoyed a BBQ dinner and handed out the local trophies.

Tom McKnight is the Low Performance champion and earned the LeSeuer Trophy for 2021. The top 1-26 teams are Cook/Daye in 039 and winners Schwartz/Hurni in 680.

Steve Leonard was recognized for the effort he put in to keeping the towplanes running during the contest. It was no small task with two broken spinners, a starter replacement, broken exhaust, and a good tune up at least.

Individually, 3rd went to Curt Lewis in 216, 2nd to JimBob Slocum in 401 and first, for the second contest in a row, Dan Nezgoda in 225!

Colten Coughlin was awarded the Jack Greene trophy for the best performance by a pilot under 30. Colten was flying his first contest here and also achieved his Silver Distance.

We were entertained post meal with an impromptu Jam Band of Curt Lewis, Jerry Boone, and Matt Boone.

Everyone had a great time. This morning is the awards brunch and then everyone will be on their way home. I hope you've enjoyed following along. Congratulations to all the winners. This was a really tough contest with weak weather and lots of landouts. The pilots and crews handled it with a smile on their faces.

See you next year for the Standard/20m 2 Seat Nationals!

Tony
