Wind

We had a nice morning briefing with the playing of the US National Anthem and a greeting from Holly at the Hutchinson Chamber.

Forecast was hot and windy. We were hopeful that it wouldn't be quite as windy and set a task to a downwind turnpoint to try to get in a valid day.

After gridding the wind got worse not better as we were hoping. Ron Schwartz, JimBob and Dan Nezgoda were the first three. All former champions, they hung on and eventually found a semi reasonable climb. However they were still drifting faster than they were climbing.

Launched the rest but climbs weren't getting better and winds aloft were reported 38mph! Out of time and with no way for the 1-26s to even hold position against the wind, the day was cancelled.

All hands were then on deck to get all the gliders from the grid to their tiedowns. Everything was tucked away safely by 4pm or so and we all scattered to cool off, eat,.etc.

The good news is that.today was the hottest and windiest say of the contest. Tomorrow shows about 10mph less wind and 7 degrees cooler. A front comes through Friday night into Saturday and the weather will at least be cooler with light winds for the rest of the contest.
