Day 3 report - A vallient effort
Happy Saturday race fans, and welcome to your daily report for Saturday, May 8th! Today started with a valiant effort with an overcast sky. After a “definite maybe” report from weatherman Tony Condon, the contestants all gridded at noon. After no increase in temperature from the low to mid 60’s, the sun finally broke through a little bit and trigger temperature was reached. Both sniffers were launched to 3,000’ AGL tows, and landed back at the field within 30 minutes. A disappointing end to the day, to be sure, but with it being 3:00 PM, it was simply too late to get all the contestants in the air and get in a reasonable contest day.
This afternoon is shaping up to be a decent evening for everyone to get some laundry done, socialize, and get chores done after a hectic last couple of days. As of this writing, Sarah Arnold took a tow in her borrowed (Thanks Sylvia and Hugh!) Libelle, and has been aloft for almost an hour showing everyone how it is done. It is 4 15 PM and some sun has peeked through the clouds. As Katrina and the Waves said, we all truly hope that one of the two hardworking owner-operators of Chilhowee is now “walking on sunshine” and enjoying a few moments of solace. I really hope Jason was able to get away as well. Running a Gliderport is a thankless task that keeps us all happy.
Look forward to another day tomorrow and we look forward to seeing y’all at the airport!
