DAY 8 AAR

Day 8 wrap up

Well, that was a fun day had by all.   The day did turn out to be much as forecast.  Strong and high with a few wrinkles.  It was not a day that rearranged the score sheet but it was certainly a race.   The scores and flight traces tell the story so I do not have to.  It worked out great to have all of the contestants complete this AST and make it to the banquet.

Noelle did a great job with the acknowledgements and finally the awards. John Cochrane managed to hold on to a 100+ point lead and win his first US National Championship.  Congratulations John.

It was a fantastic pleasure and honor to witness the performances of Thomas Greenhill.  I have watched Thomas go from crewing for his father, David Greenhill many times here at Montague. I have also watched him fly with his father, clearly interested in learning and sharing the experience of soaring.  I watched as Thomas came of age to solo and the had the great honor to issue him his private pilot glider certificate when he turned 16.  To hand him his well earned first place Standard class National Championship trophy, while handing his father the second place trophy was an event I will not soon forget.

I also had the pleasure to hand the Jon Kubly trophy for the fastest task speed during a US National Soaring Championship to none other than P7 Gary Ittner.  On day 5, Gary few a blistering 160.45 Kph handicapped task speed over an AST of 425Km task with a raw speed of 165Kph.

Many thanks to all who helped run this contest and to all of the folks who reached out with kind words of support.  It is very heart warming to know that so many folks are watching with anticipation for the outcome of the days events.

Now for the obligatory reporting and filings to put this one in the books.

Now turn your attention to Nephi.
