Day 7 AAR

Day 7 AAR

This was a very dynamic day.   The conditions turned out to be about as forecast.  Strong high thermals in convergence though out the contest area.  But it was hard to see this from the ground.  From my vantage point the day looked like it was packing up and we would be spending the afternoon and evening at the retrieve desk.  With-in an hour of opening the tasks I began watching the skies for any thing that appeared to be workable cloud streets.  The sky was about 60% obscured  by a puffy stratus layer with few signs of vertical development.  I watched as the trackers marched across the screen.  That is a dreadful process.   I retreated to my trailer to  answer emails that have been collecting in my inbox and just stop thinking about something that was out of my hands.  There was a little over development in areas but the task proved to be doable for nearly all contestants.  43 had an O2 failure and discovered that doing this task from low operating altitudes was difficult to stay in the lift band.  RV had some bad luck with the start gate rules and wound up with a very unfortunate penalty.

Noelle alerted me that XD had finished and others were approaching the field.  I was relieved as one by one they finished and cleared the runway.  We pulled it off again.  What a wonderful site this is to fly.

Check out the scores.  TX is still gaining on WS.  XD managed to put a bit more daylight between himself and his father’s scores.  This is still a race.
