Day 4 After task open

Yo!

Surprise, surprise!  The fleet arrived at the grid met by a refreshing breeze from the North.  That is generally a bad sign around here if you want to get away from Craggy.  I sent Mallory Lynch and Jim Staniforth to sniff at 12:30. MAL towed a bit higher and up the Gunsight ridge and reported a reasonable climb from the one and only thermal on the ridge,

Jim motored up in his ASH 31Mi to Craggy at normal release altitude and reported struggling to get above 6000ft.  I asked him to move up the ridge towards Gunsight and let me know when he reached 8000 ft.  We launched the 20M class at 13:30 and towed them to the Gunsight ridge.  Soon 98 reported 3 kt climb and 43 confirmed.  As I opened the task at 14:15 most of the class was above 7000 ft and there were high puffers popping on the Marbles.  The day is looking much better than the models had it.

The Standard Class gate opened and 14:50 and I have a much higher degree of confidence that we will have more finishers today and likely too many with MT in the score.

This sight is a marvelous place.  It can go from 0-100 really fast.  Stay tuned for the scores.
