Day 1 - Standard Class Report-by Thomas Greenhill

Day 1 proved to be an exercise in timing with windy and wet conditions. Most figured the odds of actually flying a contest task were slim given the forecast calling for overcast and rainy conditions, but the directors pushed on for a contest day nonetheless.

Getting up to a reasonable height for the start was the first challenge of the day. For those who managed to get out of the start gate as soon as it opened, a solid convergence line set up from Duzel to Carter, and extended out to the third turnpoint to the north-east. Yet, due to the high level of moisture, the convergence line only lasted about an hour or so before overdevloping and littering the task area with rain, making for tricky decision-making through the final turnpoint and final glide.

Those who were able to get up and out early generally were able to complete the task, though unfortunately the majority of the late-starters landed out or weren't able to finish the task.
