Day 3 CD's AAR

A mixed bag!

I am really happy to see so many finishers of the assigned task.  I was relieved that everyone got up and through the gate because as of the grid meeting I was not certain we would have the conditions. As I was considering the task, I was trying to keep the pilots over the high ground. I was fairly certain that if they fell too far off in to the valley it would be over.

I guess I was kind of spot on there.   What I did not notice and consider was the elevation of the second turn point, Craggy South 8800 ft. This proved to be the biggest  wrinkle for everyone. A few managed to get close enough to get the control point. Others got with in 1 mile and took a penalty.   Most that spent time at Craggy South trying to get high enough to get the point just got lower until they had to bail to the valley and land.  The rest of the task was pretty reasonable for most however and the finishers were happy to be done with the task.

My hat is off to ZY flying a Discus.  He had a great run and flew the task masterfully.  He was patient when he needed to be and ran hard when he could.  See the scores for the rest of the story.

Tomorrow  looks a bit weaker and may be a good day to rest.  Another look at the wx tonight and I will make a call.

We will be getting into much better conditions in a few more days so stay tuned.
