Did We Get Another 100mph + Day

As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, we should remember the military men and women who cannot be home.  They are standing watch over us to ensure we are safe from foreign harm.

It was funny when I went into the Nebo Market to grab a few things.  On the front door there was a large display talking about the rules for fireworks in the state of Utah.  Basically, it says no fireworks.  But right in the middle of the main display in the front of the store was a large box with nothing but fireworks.  We just had to laugh.

The pilot’s meeting was complete in just 34 minutes today and now that the Regional is over, it should be shorter still.  We are in a groove and the ground crew and tow pilots are hitting on all eight cylinders.  On the grid today we saw our current Standard Class Champion skipping down the runway with his girlfriend.  This got the crowd laughing that had gathered around the Team 89 tailgate.  This tailgate party sets up after the grid to cover all topics anyone wants to bring up.  A bag of pretzels from South Dakota were one of the better show and eat items.

Today the CD set us out on an assigned task that began from the SW Start to Monroe Peak, Star Point, Indian Ranch and home.  The first leg was very fast with most pilots reaching the first turnpoints with triple digit speeds.  The next leg had the gaggle go over the plateau to the east of Nephi.  There were clouds to the east but it appeared it would be too far of a deviation to make it work.  Most of the leaders went right across the plateau and took some lesser value climbs to cut down the distances.  Others stayed along the western edge.  Once you hit Star Point you went back across the plateau and into the valley.  The final glide was pretty easy for most everyone.

Again, the speeds were impressive.  In third place for the day was Peter Dean, second was John Seaborn.  In first place for the day and first place overall was Sean Fidler covering 441.86km at 163.64kph (101.28mph).  This is the fourth day in a row that we have had the winner average over 100mph.  Let’s keep this up!

Cheers,

Rich Owen
