Futile Day

We had high hopes at the beginning of the day, and we started out with a fairly ambitious Assigned Task.  We thought we would get away with staying in the eastern part of the Task Area and getting home before the clag in the west ran over us.

Not only did the clag arrive ahead of schedule, a narrow trough developed that brought more moisture directly from the Atlantic to our area.  The combination led to a solid overcast with some drizzly periods.

Interestingly, there were good looking cumulus under the stratus deck all day, even when it was raining.  This indicates that we are still in a good airmass, and our hopes for tomorrow are not for better air, but for more sunshine.

We gave up at 2pm.
