Higher, Faster, Farther

It’s an intensely sunny morning here already and the daily soaring forecast prepared by the Reno National Weather Service predicts an 18,000’ day with rates of climb fifty percent greater than yesterday.  Accordingly, CM Bob Trumbly will convene today’s pilot meeting one hour earlier.  The Pine Nut Mountain Range lies just east of the Minden-Tahoe Airport and is typically where we find our initial climbs when leaving the Carson Valley.  Skysight is predicting that we can reach 15,000’ by 11am, the HRRR is predicting 14,000” over The Pine Nuts.  The Sierra is lit up in the hot colors that indicate high altitude and strong lift on the soaring weather programs.  We’ll have to watch out for overdevelopment and afternoon thunderstorms today on the return to Minden.  Weatherman Dan will make all of this way more clear at the meeting.

Yesterday, Keith Essex had the fastest flight at 102.41 mph.  Jim Lee, Second Place, 98.32 mph.  Thomas Greenhill, Third Place at 95.10 mph.

Today promises to be faster.
