Tuesday - No Contest Day

Showers and possible thunderstorms today and tonight. Moisture may linger into early Wednesday, so it may be a weak, but soarable day. There are a few glider projects already in process. Others are heading down to Hammondsport, Corning, and Elmira to visit one of the many aviation, glass, and art museums in the area.

With no contest winners from Monday and no flying for today, we had plenty of time at the Pilots Meeting for other topics. Local DPE Jim Martin [UP] and Hank Nixon [OH] gave excellent safety talks on recognizing and staying within your personal flying limitations and recognizing how you need to be more deliberate about keeping up your flying skills as you age.

We also introduced the contest newbies: From Adirondack Soaring Club…Reigh Walling [GA] and Lucas Abate, flying team with George Hanke in the Duo Discus H. From Philadelphia Glider Council…Julia Karasinski [VB], her father Mikolaj Karasinski and Lukas Furdal [Team F2], with Jack Goritski along for support. Also, relatively new to contest flying: Lindsey Chew [LJ] with the Valley Soaring Club and Bruce VonDrashek [NN] who Leon Zeug [GH] talked into coming out all the way from Minnesota. Dansville is a great contest and location to try out your contest wings! Friendly, laid back atmosphere and relatively benign territory.
