Final Glide...Helga and Suzanne

We recently lost two lovely ladies from our soaring family. Suzanne Bundy Moffat - crew for then husband George, XX - passed on May 16, Helga Gertsen - crew for husband Kai, KI - on June 13. Both women lived in the northeast US and were part of the Rochester Soaring Club/Finger Lakes Soaring Club – Suzanne during college and Helga most of her life.

They embodied the term Super Crew! Suzanne came from a soaring family and was a pilot herself, earning the Gold C badge. She crewed for her parents Francis and Hazel Bundy and later for George, through National and World Championships in the 1960s-70s-80s and beyond. Helga married a guy addicted to soaring and loyally crewed for him for several decades, including early on with two kids in tow. Both started their soaring adventures when crews were on the road, following their pilots around the course. They were sharp, soaring-savvy, funny women and their pilots were fortunate to have their support. We fellow crew were blessed to enjoy their company on the ground.
