| Description: | Air Sailing is one again hosting a Region 11 sports class contest. We plan for 5 consecutive competition days including an informal awards banquet on Friday. The contest is conducted during the prime high desert soaring season, you can expect dynamic conditions and challenging tasks in all compass directions in some of the best soaring terrain in the west. The entry fee includes 5 tows. Oxygen is available on site (50 for the contest week). We are located 30 miles north of Reno. Onsite primitive camping is available for tents, trailers or RVs. There are no RV/trailer hookups, but we do have very nice restrooms and showers and a septic dump is available. Important note for electric glider owners: Air Sailing Gliderport is off the grid, and we generate our own electrical power. Unfortunately, our off-grid electrical power system was not designed to accommodate the charging systems associated with today's electric self-launch or electric sustainer engine gliders. Attempting to charge those batteries at the gliderport will bring down the electrical system for the entire site. If you have such a glider, we recommend you bring your own portable generator to charge your batteries, and also recommend you test your charging arrangements with discharged batteries before you arrive at the gliderport. With advance notice Air Sailing may be able to provide you with a generator, but this is not guaranteed. | |
