| 2022 | Mr Kenneth G. Sorenson | Ken is a lifelong soaring pilot who has reached the highest levels of soaring achievement not only in his flying accomplishments, but in the promotion, enhancement and continuity of the sport in the United States through his tireless work volunteering in the administration and management of the SSA. Ken has been a member since 1972 and has participated in many regional and national soaring competitions each year and has also been on the US Team. In 2012 Ken was honored with the highest award offered by the SSA, the Warren E. Eaton Memorial Trophy for his many years of leading the contest committee. Ken began his service to soaring by participating as a Director at Large. Since then, he has served the SSA on the contest rules committee, contest handicapping, clubs and chapter, growth and retention, administrative, budget and finance committees, and several others. He has served as Chairman of the SSA and continues to serve as a Director, and is on multiple committees. He was instrumental in developing the very successful CFI-G scholarship program. Despite being a competitor, he is someone who epitomizes sportsmanship and sets an example that we should all aspire to follow. Even during the middle of a close contest, he is always gracious with his time, and consequently can often be found mentoring up and coming contest pilots and assisting contest management. Ken is considered an Elder Statesman of soaring - a pilot, competitor and gentleman of the highest caliber. |
